Road to Brotherhood
Road To Brotherhood is a comprehensive guide that follows the lifecycle of an Alpha Kappa Psi brother through four distinct phases: prospective member (rushee), pledge, student brother and alumni brother. Many members of Alpha Kappa Psi do not fully understand that their experience as a brother is for life, not just for their college years. This program was designed to enhance the experience for all members, even before one makes the official life-long commitment.

Education is the key to success with everything, including Alpha Kappa Psi, and the correct education process must start from day one. Every AKPsi chapter, no matter how old or young, small or large will benefit from the Road to Brotherhood program. Road to Brotherhood was developed to be a total education program to be used by all chapters of Alpha Kappa Psi. When a prospective member is thinking about joining Alpha Kappa Psi there are certain expectations that the experience of AKPsi promises to meet, such as networking, professionalism, unity, and good memories. Road to Brotherhood is designed to be a guide for chapters so that they may deliver on these expectations from day one. It is a collection of best practices for recruitment, pledge programming, student member development and alumni cultivation.
The program's four sections are easy to apply to your current chapter operations:

Securing the Future
Defining the target market, creating challenging yet attainable membership goals, successful rush and recruitment ideas, bid delivery, and rush evaluation.

Pursuit of Brotherhood
Designing effective pledge programming, pledge education, rituals, evaluation, discipline, and new brother orientation.

Fostering Commitment
Effective student chapter structure and policy, committees, executive offices, building unity, and team work.
Affirmation of Passage
New alumni orientation, responsibilities of alumni brothers, benefits of becoming an active alum, and chapter/alumni interaction.

The Road to Brotherhood was developed by brothers for brothers. It will assist in delivering the best Alpha Kappa Psi experience possible to each person who takes an active interest in the Fraternity.
Chapters often struggle with finding the right balance with all of their chapter operations and activities. Often a chapter will be strong in rush and their professional programming will suffer, or a chapter will be strong in fundraising but may lack critical recruitment skills. Every member can honestly say there is one area (no matter how large or small) that needs improvement in their chapter. The Road to Brotherhood helps the chapters of Alpha Kappa Psi find the correct balance in all of their operations and programs. It is a carefully constructed "road map" to assist all chapters to live up to their full potential.

My chapter has been around for more than 50 years and our events have proven the test of time. Why do we need Road to Brotherhood?
You are very fortunate to have such an experienced chapter! Just because your chapter is older than most does not mean that it is invincible. Times change and so do the techniques needed to keep your chapter running at an optimum level. Processes can always be smarter and faster. Your chapter may have rush and recruitment down to a science, but how is your alumni involvement? Do you host a new brother orientation or an alumni orientation? Any process can ALWAYS be made better, the Road to Brotherhood will help take your chapter from good to great!
My chapter is very small, can Road to Brotherhood be useful to us?
Road to Brotherhood was designed to be helpful to ALL chapters, no matter the age, size, location or strength. Every chapter can take away at least one new practice after reading Road to Brotherhood.

My chapter only needs help with alumni cultivation. Can we just utilize one section of the program?
Yes. The Road to Brotherhood program was designed so chapters may integrate as much or as little as needed into their operations. One chapter may choose to follow Road to Brotherhood cover to cover and others may choose to utilize only certain sections.

How do we get a copy of the Road To Brotherhood?
Road to Brotherhood can be downloaded in Word format at the Forms and Documents section.

Our chapter is having trouble meeting minimum standards, where can we go in Road to Brotherhood for help?
Under the Recruitment, Pledging and Membership section of the Forms and Documents page, there is a document that lists all of the minimum standards the board of directors requires each chapter in good standing to meet. Under each standard are page references within the Road to Brotherhood. These page references will help you implement ideas to meet minimum standards and avoid probation.

How do we implement the Road to Brotherhood in our chapter?
Have your executive committee sit down as a group with the chapter advisor and discuss strengths and weaknesses for the chapter (or do it with the entire chapter). Identifying these will help your chapter realize where RTB can fit into your chapter. Once weaknesses have been identified, then RTB can be referenced for ideas on how to improve. It may take one or two ideas from RTB to vastly improve the weakness or it may take the entire section. It all depends on the weakness and the chapter’s willingness to improve. RTB will not solve all your chapter’s problems over night. It will take patience and the entire chapter working together toward the higher goal of improvement to see change. Be sure to keep members updated on what is being implemented and how it is going to change things in the chapter.

There is also a self-guided survey your chapter can take to determine where RTB can help. Take this survey to a chapter meeting and have the members answer questions as a group. If there are questions that do not have positive answers reflected (agree to strongly agree), then these are areas within the chapter with room for improvement. The Road to Brotherhood program can help.
